Day before Sen. Manny Pacquiao’s fight, Philippine National Police Chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa said that he will personally handle those policemen that are associated with the jail raid that led to the killing of Rolando Espinosa Sr., Albuera, Leyte mayor.
The PNP Chief said that he will cut his stay in Las Vegas short and will take care of those involved once he comes back right after the fight of Pacquiao.
Dela Rosa, who was still in the US, said that he will give the permission to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) to fully handle the investigation regarding Espinosa’s killing.
Espinosa has been killed by the operatives of the CIDG’s unit in Region 8.
The operatives were supposed to serve search warrants only on Espinosa and Raul Yap, a drug suspect, in the Leyte Sub-Provincial Jail in Baybay City when a shootout took over and had killed the jailed local chief executive and the other inmate.
Dela Rosa said he was not sure if the involved CIDG operatives were relieved or suspended.
“Malalaman natin ‘yan pag-uwi ko, but now I’m giving the full authority to CIDG [director Chief Superintendent Roel Obusan]. Ang dapat niyang gawin as director bahala muna siya then bukas, I will deal with them once I come back,” PNP chief said.
The PNP chief assured in an interview especially to Sen. Panfilo Lacson that there will be no whitewash in the investigation of police that claimed that they killed the mayor in self-defense.
He also said that he will personally deal with the rumors that CIDG Region 8 director Superintendent Marvin Marcos was a drug protector.
Dela Rosa will also investigate the CIDG men about the reports that the latter took the CCTV camera installed in the sub-provincial jail during the operation against Espinosa.
Chief Inspector Leo Laraga, CIDG Region 8’s team leader, denied the accusation that they took the CCTV camera.
In an interview on Balitanghali, Laraga confidenty said that they will be cleared from the speculations that they intentionally killed the mayor in his jail cell.
