A case has now been filed at the Pangasinan Prosecutor Office against a former Bayambang town councilor including four barangay village chiefs for violation of RA 9165 or Anti-Dangerous Drug Act.
Assistant Provincial Prosecutor Gil Rosario recommended the filing of criminal charges against ex-councilor Gerardo De Vera of brgy. Zone 1 together with Renato Soriano of barangay Tamaro; Gildo Madronio of Brgy. San Gabriel Dos; George Balbon of Brgy. Nalsian; and Eduardo Alacantara of Brgy. Beleng a day after they were arrested on their respective home last November 10.
The arrests came after the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in coordination with the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office and Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT) team had raided the suspects’ houses based on search warrant issued by the court.
Recovered from de Vera’s house includes several sachets of suspected shabu and unlicensed ammunition. The councilor denied having possession of illegal drugs and claimed it was planted by the raiding team.
The other suspects likewise denied their involvement with the illegal drugs activity after small packs of shabu and other illegal drugs have been found in their houses. Village chief Soriano told the raid was politically motivated.
The prosecutor has recommended no bail for de Vera and Soriano as there were more than 10 grams of shabu have been recovered from them during the raid while both Alcantara and Balbin have to raise P200, 000.00 each for their temporary liberty.
Provincial Police Director Sr./Supt. Ronald Lee said the suspects were arrested after they were pinpointed by drug and pusher surrenders as their source of illegal drug.
