Leyte Fourth District Representative Lucy Torres-Gomez ignored baseless allegations that actor turned politician Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez and Manuel ‘Matt’ Torres is linked to the drug trade in Eastern Visayas.
Before the Senate committee on public order meeting, Representative Lucy Torres Gomez provided this response after the testimony of Region VIII Chief Inspector Leo Laraga of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), who is said to spearhead the police raid inside the cell of slain Mayor Ronald Espinosa Sr. of Albuera, Leyte.
November 10, Thursday, during the Senate public-order committee meeting, Chief Inspector Laraga allegedly accused the government officials namely Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez, Baybay Vice-Mayor Mike Cari, Leyte Representative Vicente Veloso, and Leyte Governor Leopoldo Petilla being involved in Kerwin Espinosa’s drug group.
Earlier, Kerwin Espinosa was identified by his father, the slain Mayor Espinosa, as a “big time drug lord in Eastern Visayas.” Some says Mayor Espinosa may have been under pressure to exclaim his own son in the drug war.
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) received a text message from London, United Kingdom saying, Leyte Fourth District Representative Lucy Torres-Gomez denied the accusation to her husband, Richard Gomez, who is being tagged as a “drug protector.”
Representative Lucy Torres-Gomez concisely but firmly said that this accusation is offensive, baseless, and untrue.
The representative also refute the allegation on involvement on the same drug trade of her brother, Matt Torres.
The six-page sworn affidavit of slain Mayor Espinosa, published in GMA News Online last Monday, November 7, allegedly stating 50 named individuals serves as protectors of his own son’s illegal drug activities in Eastern Visayas.
Former Department of Justice Secretary and Manuel ‘Matt’ Torres together with other government officials was included on the list of Mayor Espinosa.
And because of his death, Mayor Espinosa’s statement cannot now be verified as his own wherein it being claimed that his list is based on his personal knowledge with a pocket notebook in his possession.
