Senator Leila de Lima confirmed the long-standing rumor of her illicit love affair with her former driver-bodyguard.
In an exclusive tell-all interview with Winnie Monsod aired on Monday night at GMA-7’s “Bawal ang Pasaway,” the feisty senator blamed the “frailties of a woman” that made her fell in love with a married man named Ronnie Dayan.
De Lima holds no bar when she revealed that her closeness and trust to Dayan made their relationship to last for “few years.”
The senator also admitted that she had supported Dayan financially, but denied allegations that she built him a mansion in his hometown in Pangasinan.
The former Justice Secretary’s affair with Dayan was first exposed by Sandra Cam in an affidavit she submitted to the Commission on Appointment in 2014.
Cam, the former whistleblower in the illegal numbers game of jueteng, was opposing De Lima’s appointment as Justice Secretary due to issue on immorality.
However, Cam’s effort went to vain.
In August 2016, the “love affair” issue cropped up again after President Rodrigo Duterte denounced De Lima for having an affair with her married driver calling her immoral and adulterer.
The President also claimed that Dayan allegedly collected monthly drug money at the New Bilibid Prison.
The allegations was further bolstered by high profiled NBP inmates-turned-witnesses who detailed the unusual closeness and the alleged sex scandal video of De Lima and Dayan, as well as their involvement in the illegal drug trade inside the jail.
Witnesses said they were forced to sell drugs to raise campaign funds for De Lima’s senatorial bid.
De Lima belied the allegations saying the President was just using the issue to exact his revenge against her.
De Lima is against the extrajudicial killings linked to the Anti-Drug war campaign of President Duterte. She even invited the United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur to investigate the summary executions in the country that earned the ire of the President.
Dayan is still at large and nowhere to be found.
